Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork. Custom New York Giants Jerseys .com) - The Carolina Panthers won for the first time in seven games last week, were without Cam Newton due to a car accident this week, but somehow sit atop the much-maligned NFC South. Derek Anderson filled in for Newton and threw for 277 yards and a touchdown as the Panthers defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 19-17 on Sunday. Newton suffered two transverse process fractures in his lower back in a two- car accident Tuesday afternoon near the teams stadium. He was released from the hospital on Wednesday morning and will be re-evaluated next week. Anderson, who also started for Newton in the Panthers Week 1 win at Tampa Bay, completed 25-of-40 passes. Greg Olsen caught 10 balls for 110 yards and Kelvin Benjamin added 104 yards on eight receptions for Carolina (5-8-1), which is percentage points ahead of the New Orleans Saints (5-8) for first place in the division. The Saints visit the Chicago Bears on Monday night. The Atlanta Falcons came into Sunday tied with the Saints for first place, but they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-20. Josh McCowns 16-yard touchdown scramble on a 3rd-and-11 clawed the Bucs within 19-17 with 3:11 left, but the Panthers picked up a pair of first downs and took the next 2:48 off the clock. Tampa Bay regained possession with 23 seconds remaining, but Luke Kuechlys interception on second down sealed the outcome. McCown completed 13-of-28 passes for 154 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Buccaneers (2-12), who have dropped four straight games. Doug Martin carried the ball 14 times for 96 yards and Vincent Jackson hauled in six passes for 70 yards in defeat. Carolina outgained Tampa Bay 249-156 and held the ball for 21:04 in the first half, but trailed 10-9 at the break. The Panthers drove into the Tampa Bay 40 on each of their four first-half possessions, but settled for a trio of Graham Gano field goals. The Panthers turned to their defense to finally gain the upper hand in the third, getting a turnover on Tampa Bays first possession and forcing a trio of three-and-outs on its next three drives before getting another takeaway. Tampa Bay was faced with a 3rd-and-15 on its initial possession of the third. A backpedaling McCown was attempting to set up a screen, but Charles Johnson strip-sacked him from behind and Kawann Short made the recovery at the Bucs 5-yard line. Carolina quickly took advantage of the miscue when Anderson flipped a 2-yard TD pass to Jerricho Cotchery in the back of the end zone on a play-action seam pattern two plays later, staking the Panthers to a 16-10 lead. Carolina moved the ball deep into Tampa Bay territory on its next drive, but Stewart fumbled inside the 10. Alterraun Verner stripped the ball away from Stewart, while was fighting for extra yardage, and Akeem Spence pounced on the ball at the 8-yard line. The Bucs offense finally gained some traction late in the third. An 18-yard Charles Sims run off left tackle and a 16-yard Jackson reception helped them move the ball into Carolina territory. But Roman Harper stripped McCown from behind and Bene Benwikere recovered the downfield fumble at the 27. Gano split the uprights from 45 yards out on the Panthers next drive to put them up by two scores, 19-10, midway through the fourth. Earlier, Gano connected on a 29-yard field goal, capping Carolinas opening 13-play, 73-yard possession. The Bucs responded on their first touch. Martin broke off a 63-yard run up the middle and McCown flipped an 8-yard TD pass to Mike Evans three plays later to give Tampa Bay a 7-3 advantage. Gano hit from 49 yards out on Carolinas ensuing touch late in the first quarter, but missed wide left from 50 yards out on its next drive. He nailed a 38-yard field goal on the Panthers final sequence of the half, giving them a 9-7 edge with 1:10 to go. Tampa Bay, though, gained 19 yards on a 3rd-and-10 via a McCown screen pass to Sims, which set up a Patrick Murray 48-yard field goal in the waning seconds of the half. Game Notes Newton was dealing with a rib injury in Week 1 and Anderson went 24-of-34 passing for 230 yards with two touchdowns in the 20-14 victory over the Bucs ... Tampa Bay has turned the ball over in 19 straight games, the second longest streak in the NFL ... Evans 11th touchdown reception of the season tied Mike Williams 2010 franchise rookie record. Cody Latimer Jersey . After a first half in which he thought "the lid was on the basket," the Toronto Raptors coach watched his squad mount a second half surge to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers 98-91. Kyle Lauletta Jersey . On Thursday, a judge said Varlamov could be released if he posted $5,000 bond and be allowed to travel with the team but he was ordered to stay away from his girlfriend, among other restrictions. http://www.nygiantsproshop.com/authentic-nate-solder-jersey.html . - The Jacksonville Jaguars are leaning more toward playing injured quarterback Blake Bortles against Tennessee on Thursday night.PHILADELPHIA - All that quarterback uncertainty has stifled the Philadelphia Eagles offence. Michael Vicks return from a hamstring injury lasted less than a half, and coach Chip Kelly doesnt expect him to play at Oakland (3-4) next Sunday. Nick Foles took the ImPACT test on Monday, a first step toward returning from a concussion. But Kelly didnt have the results, so his status is day to day. That leaves Matt Barkley. The rookie has been the last QB standing the last two games for Philadelphia (3-5). Thats the positive for him. On the other hand, the Eagles have no points with Barkley under centre. Then again, its not just his fault. They managed only one field goal with Foles and Vick playing almost five quarters combined in losses to Dallas and the New York Giants. "Its not all on the quarterback," Kelly said Monday. "Its on all of us. We have to do a better job as a total group. I have confidence in the group. Its the same group for six games we were on track to set records. Were not going to do something new. We have to settle down and our playmakers have to make plays." Kellys up-tempo, hurry-up offence was on pace to set franchise records and much more after six games. The Eagles racked up at least 425 yards total offence in each of the first six games and averaged 27.7 points. But they combined for just 379 yards and 3 offensive points the last two weeks. LeSean McCoy, who leads the NFL with 733 yards rushing, had only 103 yards on 33 carries in the two losses. DeSean Jackson had only 11 catches for 84 yards in those games. So if their down to their No, 3 quarterback, other players have to step up, right? Well, theyre not. "It starts with me," McCoy said. "I feel like, coming into the game, we want to establish the run. Teams know that. I have to get out there and get it going. This offence has to do better, starting with myself." Barkley entered the game in tough spots two straight weeks. The Eagles trailed the Cowboys 17-3 when he replaced Foles in the fourtth quarter last week. Lorenzo Carter Giants Jersey. They were down 12-0 to the Giants when he took over for Vick in Sundays 15-7 loss. He threw interceptions on all three series against Dallas, and had two more turnovers in his seven drives vs. the Giants. Barkleys best series was his first against New York. He drove the Eagles from their 20 to the 2 before losing a fumble on first down. Kelly said Barkley shouldve thrown the ball away because both receivers were covered on the play. Instead, Barkley rolled out and ended up getting sacked and losing the ball. "You just have to remind yourself one play at a time," Barkley said. "Youre not going to win the game with one play. Its definitely different then starting from scratch, being 0-0 from opening kickoff. But I dont want to make that excuse for how we performed as an offence. We have a lot of things to correct across the board and it always starts with the quarterback, so we will watch this tape and see what needs to be fixed." Selected with the first pick in the fourth round of the draft, Barkley was a standout at Southern California. He rewrote the conference record book during a USC-record 47 starts over four seasons, becoming the Pac-12s leader in touchdown passes, yards passing, completions and total offence. But there are no easy opponents in the NFL. "Im just going to compete and see what happens with this week," Barkley said. "My confidence is not down. Its a tough loss and you hate to see that happen but Im not beating myself up. You look at those plays and replay some of them thinking what you could have done better, but you move on and we will see what happens this week but again I will prepare like I am starting." If Foles isnt cleared to play against the Raiders, the Eagles could add another quarterback. G.J. Kinne, who spent training camp with the team, was signed to the practice squad last week. Kinne, the former Tulsa starter, hasnt thrown a pass in the NFL, and Kelly views him as an all-around athlete for help in practice.
