The Boston Red Sox acquired veteran first baseman/outfielder Steve Pearce in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night.

Dave Dombrowski Reggie White Jersey , the Red Sox president of baseball operations, announced the deal after Boston’s 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Boston sent minor league infielder Santiago Espinal to Toronto.

Pearce’s cost to the Sox will be $1.5 million. The Blue Jays will give Boston $1,658,602 to cover part of the $3,158,602 remaining in the $6.25 million salary of Pearce, who can become a free agent after the World Series.

The 35-year-old has hit .291 with four home runs and 16 RBIs in 26 games for Toronto this season. Pearce has a career average of .255 and 83 career home runs and 268 RBIs. Boston manager Alex Cora said the Red Sox are adding a strong batter they can use against left-handed pitching.

”It’s one more weapon that we have. We got better tonight,” Cora said. ”It’s good to have him.”

Pearce could join the Red Sox this weekend in New York when they face the division-rival Yankees.

NEW YORK — When the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox get together for their next series, both teams could feature somewhat different rosters.

After Sunday’s finale of the three-game series at Yankee Stadium, the longtime rivals will not meet again until Aug. 2 at Fenway Park — two days after the non-waiver trade deadline.

Both teams will play 25 games before the next installment of the rivalry.

The teams head into the ninth meeting with four wins apiece after Chris Sale fanned 11 in seven one-hit innings in an 11-0 rout Saturday. Rafael Devers hit a grand slam among a career-high five hits while J.D. Martinez drove in three runs as the Red Sox rebounded from opening the series with an 8-1 loss Friday.

Devers has 14 RBIs in his last 12 games while Martinez is hitting .432 with 12 of his major league-leading 67 RBIs in his last nine games.

The Yankees will be looking to rebound from getting shut out for the fourth time this season and third time since June 23.

Off the field, trade talks were a popular topic as both Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and Red Sox general manager Dave Dombrowski addressed it.

The Yankees are in the market for a starting pitcher to bolster the back end of their rotation anchored by Sunday’s starting pitcher Luis Severino (12-2 Youth John Moore Jersey , 2.10 ERA).

With the crosstown New York Mets falling to one of the worst records in the National League, talk of a possible deal for Jacob deGrom is circulating, though Toronto’s J.A. Happ or Texas Rangers left-hander Cole Hamels could be more realistic.

“If the best business decisions happened to be with a rival, that’s not a problem for me,” said Cashman on Friday, while noting he has been in touch with Omar Minaya, one of three men holding the Mets GM role in Sandy Alderson’s leave of absence. “As far as I’m concerned it match just makes sense, I don’t care who (it’s) with.

As for the Red Sox, they already filled a need by adding a right-handed hitting first baseman in Steve Pearce. Pearce was obtained Thursday night from the Toronto Blue Jays but Dombrowski said Saturday the deal could have been completed earlier and any changes would not be overly significant.

“People are calling, and you just kind of check in and make sure they know what’s taking place and vice versa,” Dombrowski said Saturday afternoon. “The one thing with us is Womens Kyle Palmieri Jersey , we’re going to try to be the best club we can, regardless of what the Yankees do. And we all know that they have a really good team.”

Neither team is motivated to get something done now and both executives will watch Severino face David Price (9-5, 3.66) in a matchup of pitchers who are rolling of late.

Severino can become the first 13-game winner in the majors after he allowed six hits in seven scoreless innings Tuesday in Philadelphia.

“There’s no question that he’s our ace, and we know that when he gets the ball, he has a chance to dominate and we have a good chance to get it done that day,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday.

Severino also is 7-0 with a 1.83 ERA in nine home starts this season. He also is 10-0 with a 1.98 ERA in his last 13 regular season home starts, the longest streak at home since David Cone went 16 starts without a home loss from Aug. 17, 1997, to Aug. 27, 1998.

Severino’s home unbeaten streak matches Seattle’s Wade LeBlanc for the longest active streak in the majors.

The right-hander has turned in 14 straight starts without allowing more than three runs. It is the longest active streak in the majors and the longest by a Yankee starting pitcher since Rudy May from Aug. 2, 1980-April 20 Geronimo Allison Jersey , 1981.

Besides racking up wins, Severino also is maintaining velocity, especially late in outings. His 98th pitch Tuesday was tracked at 100.1 mph, was among 12 at least 100 mph and his 44 pitches tracked at 100 leads all starting pitchers.

Severino’s last home loss was to the Boston Red Sox on Sept. 3. He is 2-5 with a 4.61 ERA in 10 appearances (nine starts) against Boston.

Price is 7-1 with a 2.72 ERA in his last nine starts and has allowed three earned runs or fewer in each outing. He last pitched Tuesday against the Los Angeles Angels and recorded his ninth win by allowing one run and five hits in six innings.

Things are going so well that he ended his press conference following his last outing by making fun of his carpal tunnel syndrome that some speculated was due to playing the video game Fortnite and kept him out of a game in New York in May.

“I don’t think I’ll be able to go, so I don’t think so,” Price said before adding “Yeah, Fortnite.”

Price is attempting to reach double-digits in wins before the All-Star break for the first time since 2012 with Tampa Bay and third time overall.

The left-hander is 15-12 with a 4.67 ERA in 39 appearances (38 starts) against the Yankees. At the current Yankee Stadium, he is 8-6 with a 4.27 ERA in 19 starts.

Since joining the Red Sox in 2016, he is 2-4 with a 7.42 ERA in eight starts against the Yankees.

Chicago Cubs pitching prospect Oscar De La Cruz has been suspended 80 games under Major League Baseball’s drug program.

The commissioner’s office said Friday that the 23-year-old right-hander tested positive for Furosemide 49ers Fred Warner Jersey , a diuretic and masking agent.

De La Cruz is 6-7 with a 5.24 ERA in 16 starts this season at Double-A Tennessee, and is considered among the Cubs’ top prospects. He is covered under the major league drug program because he is on the 40-man major league roster and is on option to Tennessee.

The Cubs say that while they are ”disappointed” in De La Cruz, they ”will support him on his journey back.”

He is the ninth player suspended this year under the big league drug program. The others are Seattle All-Star second baseman Robinson Cano, Chicago White Sox catcher Welington Castillo, Houston pitcher Dean Deetz, Washington catcher Raudy Read, Pittsburgh pitcher Nik Turley, Kansas City outfielder Jorge Bonifacio, Toronto pitcher Thomas Pannone and Minnesota shortstop Jorge Polanco.

There have been 46 players suspended this year under the minor league drug program.

Orlando Brown Jr. grew up in his father’s world.

He hung out in NFL locker rooms. He learned the mentality required of a successful offensive lineman. He even began to value the college diploma his father never earned.

Now the massive Oklahoma tackle is about to enter a different universe, one in which he will be poked and prodded 49ers Tarvarius Moore Jersey , measured and compared. And he will no doubt hear a litany of questions about his late, great, dear old dad.

”I don’t necessarily model my game after him,” Brown said Thursday at the NFL’s annual scouting combine in Indianapolis. ”I can’t really study dad because it’s a different game. So much has changed between 1993 and now.”

Make no mistake, the same traits Orlando ”Zeus” Brown used to carve out a more than decade-long career with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens still work.

He was known as a tough, physical blocker who could steamroll anyone in his way.

The second-generation star still relies on power but understands he must be leaner and more athletic to succeed in today’s up-tempo, no-huddle track meets.

Still, he was born into the family business.

”I’ve been fat my whole life,” he said when asked if ever didn’t want to play on the line. ”I wish I was fast. If I was 6-foot-2, I’d probably be playing DB. But God blessed me.”

With dad’s genes.

Brown fins himself in good company this weekend. There are plenty of family ties around Indy.

Some 49ers Kentavius Street Jersey , like Brown and running back Chris Warren III, are now playing their fathers’ positions.

Others have more recent ties – especially among the linemen.

The brother of Michigan State’s Brian Allen, Jack, has played the last two seasons with the New Orleans Saint The brother of UCLA’s Scott Quessenberry, David, suited up for the Houston Texans last December after waging a long battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Notre Dame offensive lineman Mike McGlinchey even claimed to try catching passes from cousin Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons.

”We went out and he started throwing passes to me and the balls were going over my head every time,” said McGlinchey, a high school tight end at the time. ”I said `What are you doing? He said `That’s where Julio (Jones) usually is. I told him, `Ok, I’m not that guy.”’

Nobody has a bigger legacy to fulfill than Brown.

He described his play that first season in Norman Authentic Josh Rosen Jersey , Oklahoma, as ”really bad.”

Since then, there have been few complaints.

Brown started 40 consecutive games for the Sooners and was twice named an All-American. He insisted he wouldn’t leave school until he had a first-round projection.

At 6-8, 360 pounds, Brown could be one of the biggest players chosen in this class.

The problem: He did only 14 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, the lowest total of any lineman who has lifted at the combine.

Brown knows it’s a problem that must be corrected at his pro day and the stigma could stick with him through the end of April.

”I didn’t stick to my breathing routine,” he said. ”That’s the lowest number I’ve done.”

But Brown has repeatedly demonstrated his strength on and off the field.

When his father died from diabetic ketoacidosis in September 2011, the grieving son’s academics suffered.

Things deteriorated so much the University of Tennessee pulled a scholarship offer.

Then, Brown woke up.

”I made up my mind to not ever let academics be a problem again,” he said.

It hasn’t been.

Yet with so much at stake over the next three months Authentic Terrell Edmunds Jersey , Brown must show that he’s more than just a big, passionate player who enjoys studying the game and the history of it.

He must carve out his own identity in this new football world.

”I think my biggest asset is my football I.Q. I understand the game, I understand the NFL, I understand what it takes,” Brown said. ”I’ve always loved football and the personnel part and I learned a lot by growing up around it.”

Note: Army offensive lineman Brett Toth said he has applied for a waiver to enter the NFL but has not yet been given any assurance it will be granted by draft weekend. ”I hear occasionally they’ve been talking about it. But they have other things far more important than me. They’ve got to worry about the whole Middle East.”

In their first road test against baseball’s top team Patriots Adrian Clayborn Jersey , the upstart Seattle Mariners were no match for the Yankees‘ pitching and power.

Domingo German tossed two-hit ball over a career-high seven innings and Giancarlo Stanton hit one of New York’s four home runs Tuesday night in a 7-2 victory against the Mariners.

”A lot of fun,” Stanton said. ”We were clicking on all cylinders.”

Miguel Andujar and Aaron Hicks each belted a two-run shot off Marco Gonzales in the fifth. Hicks homered for the third straight day and finished with three hits from the leadoff spot as the Yankees (48-22) moved a season-best 26 games above .500.

Coming off a four-hit game, Stanton sent a solo drive to straightaway center field in the first. Aaron Judge had an RBI single in the seventh, and rookie phenom Gleyber Torres added his 14th home run in the eighth.

The first two batters reached against German (2-4) on a double and an error. The rookie right-hander then retired 19 in a row until Nelson Cruz homered in the seventh.

”Dominating, man. Just pounding the zone, blowing it by guys and just showing what he can do,” Stanton said.

After beating Tampa Bay for his first major league win last week, German was impressive once again. Featuring a sharp breaking ball, he struck out nine and walked none while throwing 67 of 96 pitches for strikes.

”I even kicked around sending him back out there for the eighth because he was just so efficient,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. ”He’s really talented.”

German has 28 strikeouts in his last three starts Eagles Paul Worrilow Jersey , a span of 19 innings.

”He was throwing everything. Changeup, curveball – he was commanding everything,” Cruz said. ”He kept us off balance. It seems like we were late with fastballs, early with breaking pitches. It was his day.”

A.J. Cole worked two perfect innings to complete a crisp game that took just 2 hours, 28 minutes. New York has won 15 of 19 overall.

One of baseball’s biggest surprises so far, the Mariners (46-27) lost for only the eighth time in 30 games as they opened a 10-game trip to the East Coast that could serve as an early summer measuring stick. Three games at Yankee Stadium will be followed by three in Boston – the top two teams in the majors.

”We’re going to play our game. Things didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to,” Cruz said. ”We’ll come back positive tomorrow and try to make things better.”

Gonzales (7-4) entered 4-0 with 1.41 ERA in his past six starts but wasn’t up to the task in his first career outing against the Yankees. The left-hander gave up eight hits and a career-high six runs over 6 1/3 innings in his first loss since May 12 at Detroit.

”They’re a good hitting team. I think they had the right game plan tonight. Just sitting off speed, kind of out front,” Gonzales said. ”They got me early in the count and I think kudos to them on their approach.”

The three home runs off Gonzales matched a career high and raised his season total to nine.

”It’s a short porch. It’s a boom box in here,” he said. ”I am going to learn from it and get better. What an experience for me. … I think I was very excited and obviously living out a childhood dream of being able to pitch here.”

New York improved to a major league-best 27-11 at home – and 17-5 against left-handed starters this season. … Yankees pitchers have a 1.97 ERA in 17 games this month Eagles Richard Rodgers Jersey , best in the majors. … New York has won eight of its last 10 vs. the Mariners and is 17-6 against them since June 10, 2014. … New York leads the majors with 118 homers. … Yankees SS Didi Gregorius played in his 700th career game, passing Hall of Fame pitcher Bert Blyleven for the most by anyone born in the Netherlands.

Mariners: RHP Nick Vincent (strained right groin) threw 14 pitches in a scoreless inning Monday for Double-A Arkansas. He is expected to make one more rehab appearance Wednesday with Arkansas before rejoining the Mariners in Boston.

Yankees: OF Brett Gardner (swollen right knee) could return to the lineup Wednesday, Boone said. … Torres slept funny on his shoulder a few nights ago but said he’s fine. Boone would like to get the second baseman a day off soon regardless.

Mariners: RHP Felix Hernandez (6-6, 5.44 ERA) pitches the middle game of the series Wednesday night. King Felix is 7-2 with a 2.00 ERA over 11 career starts in the Bronx, including 6-1 with a 1.41 ERA in nine outings at the current Yankee Stadium. The six-time All-Star and 2010 AL Cy Young Award winner is 10-7 with a 3.04 ERA and four complete games in 21 starts against New York overall.

Yankees: RHP Jonathan Loaisiga (1-0) gets the ball again after coming up from Double-A Trenton and throwing five shutout innings to win his big league debut vs. Tampa Bay last Friday. With ace Luis Severino (10-2) set to face James Paxton (6-1) in a marquee matchup Thursday afternoon, the Yankees are scheduled to start only pitchers 25 or younger during an entire series of at least three games for the first time since September 2006 in Toronto.

NEW YORK — Greg Bird was rehabbing a right ankle injury for the first six meetings between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.

He carried a .191 average and several frustrating at-bats into Friday’s series opener. Then he slugged two homers and possibly gave the Yankees something to think about with the first baseman’s playing time against left-handers Chris Sale and David Price and the final two games.

While Bird could get the game off, his New York temmates will get a crack at solving Sale on Saturday night in the second game of three-game series against Boston at Yankee Stadium.

Bird posted his second career multi-homer game and the Yankees opened the series by hitting four homers in an 8-1 rout on Friday. After homering twice, Bird is batting 204 (19-for-93) in 29 games since coming off the disabled list.

“Perhaps, I think about that a little bit JK Scott Jersey ,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “It was really good to see Birdie impact the ball. I was happy for him and that’s something that can kind of jump-start him a little bit because what we believe he brings is that left-handed on-base, power guy in this ballpark.”

If Bird is in the lineup, he will be getting his first career at-bats against Sale. If Bird is not in the lineup, it could be Brandon Drury or Neil Walker at first base.

Regardless if Bird plays, the Yankees were glad to see him homer to left-center field and right-center field against Eduardo Rodriguez in the fifth and Justin Haley in the eighth.

“It’s only a matter of time,” Yankees right-fielder Aaron Judge said of Bird. “It takes a lot of time to kind of get in that groove.”

Sale is 7-4 with a 2.56 ERA this season but rolling of late.

He is 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in his last three starts and in the last four starts has totaled 43 strikeouts in 28 innings while allowing a paltry .155 average.

Sale last pitched Sunday when he allowed four hits and struck out 13 in a 5-0 win over the Seattle Mariners. Sale posted his second straight double-digit strikeout game, sixth this season and ended the outing by fanning Mike Zunino with a 100.5 mph fastball — the fastest pitch of his career.

This season as the Red Sox attempt to keep Sale fresh for the final months of the year, his velocity is steadily increasing. His average fastball was 92.5 in April, 95.6 in May and 97.0 this month.

“I think it’s just getting back into a little bit better rhythm,” Sale said of his increase in velocity. “I’ve been saying the same thing over the last three or four starts — it’s feeling good and getting into that tempo and getting back into a little bit better rhythm than I had been starting the year. I put a lot of work into it. I’m glad where we’re at.”

If Sale posts double-digit strikeouts Saturday Sergei Boikov Jersey , it will mark the fourth time he has at least 10 strikeouts in three straight games.

“A lot of people get caught up on strikeouts,” Sale said. “They’re nice, but at the end of the day your job is to pitch as deep into that game as you can and keep as few runs off the board (as possible).”

Sale enters the game with 153 strikeouts, two ahead of Houston’s Gerrit Cole for the league lead. He also is hoping to see his teammates produce a better offensive showing after losing for the second time in eight games.

The left-hander faced the Yankees on April 10 in a 14-1 win at Fenway Park. He is 5-4 with a 1.73 ERA in 16 appearances (13 starts) against the Yankees.

While Mookie Betts was 2-for-4 and had his 25th multi-hit game, J.D. Martinez was 0-for-4 and is now hitless in his last nine at-bats.

New York will counter with Sonny Gray, who is 5-5 with a 4.93 ERA.

Gray is 2-1 with a 3.23 ERA in his last five starts since lasting 3 2/3 innings in an 11-4 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on May 26. His last outing was last Saturday in Tampa Bay when he allowed four runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings of a 4-0 loss.

Gray faced the Red Sox on April 12 in Boston when he allowed six runs and seven hits in a season-low three innings of a 6-3 loss. Since joining the Yankees, he is 0-3 with a 7.20 ERA in three starts against the Red Sox. For his career, Gray is 1-5 with a 5.97 ERA in seven games against Boston.

Former Major League Baseball all-star David Nilsson has been named manager of Team Australia as it aims to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Baseball Australia said Wednesday that the former Milwaukee Brewers catcher would lead the team in games at the 2019 Premier 12 tournament Eagles Dallas Goedert Jersey , which doubles as the first chance for 2020 Olympic qualification. He could also manage Australia at the 2021 World Baseball Classic.

Nilsson returned to the national team staff as an assistant coach for the 2018 Japan Series after winning three consecutive Australian Baseball League titles with the Brisbane Bandits, who went 86-48 while winning ABL titles in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

The 48-year-old Nilsson says: ”It was really special to get back to international competition, I love the environment and I really missed it.”

Regarded as Australia’s best-ever MLB player, Nilsson finished his MLB career with a .284 batting average, 105 home runs and 470 runs batted in.

He created history in 1999 when he became the first Australian to be named an MLB All-Star after finishing with a .309 batting average in 115 games for the Brewers.

He remains the only position player ever named from Australia for an All-Star Game. Grant Balfour, while with the Oakland A’s, was named as a replacement pitcher for teammate Bartolo Colon in 2013 and is the only other player from Down Under to appear in an All-Star Game.

Nilsson also played for Australia’s Olympic team in 2000 and 2004, when it won silver at the Athens Games.

DENVER — When Andrew Suarez starts Wednesday for the San Francisco Giants, he will try to help them avoid being swept by the Colorado Rockies and solidify his spot in the Giants’ changing rotation.

Colorado left-hander Tyler Anderson (5-3, 4.23 ERA) will oppose Suarez (3-4 49ers Mike McGlinchey Jersey , 4.18).

Before his team lost 8-1 on Tuesday to the Rockies, Giants manager Bruce Bochy announced that Johnny Cueto will be reinstated from the 60-day disabled list to start Thursday against St. Louis and Jeff Samardzija will come off the 10-day disabled list and start Saturday against the Cardinals.

Cueto (elbow strain) went 3-0 with an 0.84 ERA in five starts for the Giants this season. His last start for the Giants came April 28, and he pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings in two rehab starts for Triple-A Sacramento.

“Johnny’s set to go,” Bochy said. “He passed all the tests, checked every box off. Been throwing the ball well. Hasn’t given up a run there. Bullpen (session Monday) went fine. Been hitting, bunting. I talked to Johnny. He said, ‘I’m ready to go. I feel better now than before (the injury).’ When you get one of your big guys ready to go, you pitch him.”

Bochy said Cueto would be limited to 85 pitches Thursday, and Derek Holland, if he doesn’t come out of the bullpen in the Rockies series, would back up Cueto.

Samardzija will pitch for the Giants for the first time since May 29. Bochy said that Dereck Rodriguez 49ers Dante Pettis Jersey , who was scheduled to pitch Thursday, will instead start Friday. Madison Bumgarner, of course, will take his regular turn Sunday. That leaves Suarez or Chris Stratton for the final spot in the rotation. Both pitchers have minor league options.

Suarez might have the advantage because he has pitched well lately. He went 2-0 in six June starts, and in his last outing Friday at Arizona, he allowed one run in six innings. Suarez made his Coors Field debut and first start against the Rockies on May 28 and allowed four runs (three earned) in five innings in a no-decision after heeding advice from catcher Buster Posey.

Suarez said, “I remember the last time we were, before my bullpen, Buster came up to me and he was like ‘As long as you keep throwing it right, it’ll be fine. But if you try too much, that’s the problem you’ll have. Your stuff isn’t as good.’ I just made sure to just throw it normal.”

Meanwhile Tramon Williams Jersey , Stratton gave up a career-high 11 hits and a career-high eight runs in 5 2/3 innings Tuesday. In his past six starts, Stratton is 1-3 with a 5.79 ERA.

Anderson threw a career-high eight scoreless innings with one walk and eight strikeouts Wednesday at Los Angeles in a 3-1 win over the Dodgers. Anderson is 2-2 with a 2.70 ERA in his past five starts with six walks and 32 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings. He’s 0-2 with a 5.56 ERA in four career starts against the Giants, including a no-decision May 20 at AT&T Park where he gave up five runs in 5 1/3 innings as the Rockies lost 9-5.

The Rockies have won 14 of their past 16 games from the Giants (45-42) at Coors Field. The Rockies (43-43) have climbed back to .500 by winning five of their past six games. They have been getting outstanding starting pitching, the latest effort being seven scoreless innings Tuesday from Antonio Senzatela in his first start this season for the Rockies.

The Colorado starters have pitched well in six of the past eight games, going 4-0 with a 2.15 ERA in that stretch and allowing 12 earned runs and 31 hits in 50 1/3 innings with 11 walks and 41 strikeouts.

“We’re only going to go as far as they do,” Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado said. “They’re pitching great. They’re giving the offense a chance. Quick innings, which is huge.”

Derek Dietrich was hoping for a chance at history but settled for a win in a torrid month for the Miami outfielder.

He homered for the third straight game Authentic Brandon Parker Jersey , leading Miami over the Colorado Rockies 8-5 on Sunday.

Dietrich doubled, homered and singled in his first three at-bats but managed just a single in his last two trips to the plate before leaving in the seventh inning. He tied a career high with four hits. He would have been the first Marlins player ever to hit for the cycle.

”(John) Silverman, our longtime clubhouse manager, said, `No one’s ever hit for the cycle so if you would have hit it they would have brought you back for the all-anniversary,”’ Dietrich said. ”That would have been cool. There’s always tomorrow.”

Drew Rucinski got the win in relief of starter Caleb Smith, who exited in the second inning with left shoulder tightness.

Smith said he felt tightness on his second pitch to Tom Murphy to start the inning. He struck out Murphy on four pitches but after one pitch to Gerardo Parra, manager Don Mattingly and trainers immediately went to the mound. After a brief conversation, Smith left and Rucinski came on.

Mattingly said after the game Smith will go on the disabled list and will have an MRI done Monday.

”It’s super disappointing,” Smith said. ”The DL is the last place I want to be. I want to go out there every fifth day and help my team out.”

Rucinski (2-1) allowed three runs in 2 2-3 innings but got the win, and Kyle Barraclough earned his seventh save.

The start of the game was delayed 1 hour, 31 minutes by a strong storm that dropped heavy rain and hail on Coors Field.

German Marquez (5-8) didn’t last long, either. He was tagged for six runs – five earned – in 3 1-3 innings. Miami’s first five batters reached against him during a three-run first inning.

Nolan Arenado hit a two-run homer in the bottom half, his 18th, to make it 3-2. Arenado finished the 4-3 homestand with five home runs in the final six games. Colorado is 15-22 at Coors Field.

”Winning a homestand or not, we’ve got win series,” Arenado said. ”Homestand doesn’t mean nothing until we win the series. It has been frustrating lately.”

Parra also homered for Colorado.

Dietrich, who hit .438 on the nine-game road trip and is hitting .410 in June, led off the second with a home run, his 11th. He added an RBI single in a two-run seventh to give the Marlins a three-run cushion but was replaced in the outfield for the bottom of the inning.

”Trying to win a game. At the end of the day our best defense is on the field,” Mattingly said. ”You hate taking guys out. If it’s a one-run game probably couldn’t do it but I didn’t have any sense of Marlin history.”

Dietrich, who also had four hits at St. Louis on June 6, has one triple this season.

”This park has the most cycles in baseball,” Dietrich said. ”I don’t think you can force a triple so I was just trying to have a couple of more good at-bats.”

Marlins: SS Miguel Rojas was out of the lineup for a second straight day with soreness from a bruise on his left hand. Rojas was hit by a pitch Friday night. Mattingly said Rojas was available to pinch hit.

Rockies: RHP Scott Oberg (back strain) and LHP Mike Dunn (shoulder strain) came out of Saturday’s rehab assignments in good shape Authentic Nick Nelson Jersey , manager Bud Black said. ”We’re going to see how they are today. They’ll play catch and see how they feel, start moving around and then these next decisions will follow,” he said.

The Rockies placed shaky reliever Bryan Shaw on the 10-day disabled list with a right calf strain and recalled Yency Almonte from Triple-A Albuquerque. Shaw gave up a grand slam to J.T. Realmuto on Saturday and has struggled in his setup role with Colorado. He is 3-5 with a 7.57 ERA in 41 games after signing a three-year, $27 million in the offseason.

Marlins: RHP Dan Straily (2-3, 4.89) will start Monday against Arizona while the appeal of his suspension is still pending. Straily was given a five-game suspension by Major League Baseball for intentionally throwing at San Francisco catcher Buster Posey on Tuesday night

Rockies: RHP Chad (5-1, 5.23) opens a three-game series in San Francisco on Tuesday night. He has a 6.00 ERA in two starts against the Giants this season.

The stunning turnaround by the Jacksonville Jaguars shows best in the NFL standings – and the All-Pro Team.

Rarely do the Jags have members of the elite All-Pro squad. For 2017, they have two: edge rusher Calais Campbell and cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

”It’s huge,” Campbell said. ”That’s a big testament to the work we put in. We don’t just show up and perform. We grind day in and day out to be the best. This defense is very special, so I’m glad to see us get some accolades for our hard work.”

Added Ramsey of The Associated Press All-Pro Team announced Friday:

”I can go on and on about corners I respect and I think are really good in the league. But I think (the voters) realize that I cover No. 1s every week, that I’m still putting up high numbers, still playing very well in my role and doing what I have to do.”

What Campbell and Ramsey did was help the Jaguars rank first in pass defense and second overall, earning their first playoff berth since the 2007 season.

One player, Antonio Brown, was the only unanimous choice for All-Pro. The brilliant wide receiver of the Pittsburgh Steelers drew all 50 ballots from a nationwide panel of media members who regularly cover the league. Brown missed the last two-plus games with an ankle injury.

He was among four players to make a fourth All-Pro squad, joining New England tight end Rob Gronkowski, Carolina linebacker Luke Kuechly and Los Angeles Rams punter Johnny Hekker.

The repeaters from 2016 were Brown; Rams interior defensive lineman Aaron Donald, who got 49 votes, and punter Hekker; and Seattle linebacker Bobby Wagner.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady made his third All-Pro team.

In their own turnaround season, the Rams led the way with six All-Pros, including two more specialists: kicker Greg Zuerlein and kick returner Pharoh Cooper. Running back Todd Gurley and left tackle Andrew Whitworth were honored.

”Dang, that’s crazy. It means a lot, honestly,” said Gurley, who likely would have led the league in rushing had he played in LA’s finale. ”It’s a blessing. I’ve got so much respect for everybody in this league Sylvester Williams Jersey , and to be in this position just means so much to me.

”I’ve been following people around the NFL my whole life, and to be considered as an All-Pro, man, God is good, honestly. Honestly.”

Three Steelers joined Brown on the roster: Le’Veon Bell as the flex, interior defensive lineman Cam Heyward, and right guard David DeCastro. No other team had more than two All-Pros, with the stronger NFC getting 18 players and the AFC 10.

Two rookies made it: punt returner Jamal Agnew of Detroit and special teamer Budda Baker of Arizona.

Also chosen: Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson and center Jason Kelce; Panthers left guard Andrew Norwell; Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins; Saints edge rusher Cameron Jordan; Cardinals linebacker Chandler Jones; Vikings cornerback Xavier Rhodes and safety Harrison Smith; Detroit defensive back Darius Slay; and Titans safety Kevin Byard.

First-timers made an impression on both sides of the ball, with 15 on the team: Byard, Slay, Rhodes, Jones, Jordan, Ramsey, Campbell, Hopkins, Norwell, Kelce, Johnson, Agnew, Baker, Gurley, and Cooper.

Wagner is on his third All-Pro squad.

”When you get voted for these types of awards,” he said Kerry Hyder Jersey , ”it shows you all the work you do in the offseason, the grinding, all the things you push through … when you get this, when people say this is not AFC, NFC, this is the league, this is who we deem the best at their position in the league, that says a lot. And you see the guys before you, the things they were able to accomplish, you’ve seen those things and you want those things. It’s part of that mindset of wanting to be great and understanding what comes along with that, and wanting that kind of acknowledgment.”

While making All-Pro has become almost natural for Wagner, Jordan finally got there in his seventh pro season.

”I’m definitely trying to push myself to be better than I was the year previous,” he said. ”I think I had a really good year last year. Of course, sack numbers won’t show that, but in terms of playing the run, in terms of getting after the passer I thought last year was one of my better years (7 1-2 sacks, 17 tackles for loss). So what I wanted to do this year is, of course, push myself to be better than last. That probably only poses the problem of where I go next year. Now I’ve got to shoot for more than what I did this year.”

The Washington Nationals are far from finished. Not after briefly slipping below .500 this week. And Authentic Derrius Guice Jersey , certainly not after spotting the Miami Marlins the first nine runs on Thursday night.

Trea Turner hit two homers, including his first career grand slam, and drove in eight runs to help Washington rally past Miami 14-12 in a wild slugfest to end a five-game losing streak.

”Not to get ahead of ourselves, put together wins, try to win a series,” first baseman Matt Adams said. ”I think that’s what we’re going to focus on from here on out, win two out of three, win three out of four. If that’s the case, then the wins will start stacking on top of each other and we’ll just get rolling the way we’re capable of.”

The Nationals, who dropped 17 of their previous 22, have won 12 consecutive games against Miami dating to last season – their longest winning streak against any team since the franchise moved to Washington in 2005.

It was also the largest comeback victory since the team left Montreal. The Nationals rallied from eight runs down to defeat Atlanta 13-12 on April 28, 2015.

The victory came a day after the Nationals called a players-only meeting Wednesday after Washington was swept by Boston and slipped under .500 for the first time since May 2.

But things didn’t start smoothly.

Miami scored an unearned run in the first, and capped a six-run second on Martin Prado’s three-run homer off the left-field foul pole. The Marlins made it 9-0 on Justin Bour’s two-run homer in the fourth off Jeremy Hellickson.

Despite the huge deficit Authentic Justin Bethel Jersey , Washington was far from out of it.

Turner led off the fourth with a solo shot off Marlins starter Pablo Lopez, who surrendered four more runs in the fifth – including two on Juan Soto’s double. Adam Conley (2-1) then allowed four of the first five hitters he faced to reach in the sixth before Turner smacked a two-out fastball with the bases loaded into Miami’s bullpen to give the Nationals a stunning 10-9 lead. It was Turner’s third career multi-homer game.

”Command was an issue today, so I wasn’t able to get the ball where I wanted,” Conley said. ”My hat’s off to him. I thought the ball was coming out pretty good today, so for him to get ahold of it, that’s the way the game goes. If the game were easy, everybody would play it.”

Turner added a two-run single in Washington’s four-run seventh. His eight RBIs tied for the most ever by a leadoff hitter, according to STATS LLC.

”When we were down 7-0, I feel like we still for sure had a shot – 9-0, it hurts a little bit more, but we did it,” Turner said. ”I think once we got the first run on the board, it kind of just got the momentum back on our side and we continued to push. I think that’s what we’re capable of.”

Shawn Kelley (1-0) pitched a scoreless sixth for the win. Sean Doolittle earned his 22nd save in 23 opportunities.

Adams had four hits for Washington in his first game since a stint on the disabled list for a broken left index finger.

”Good win Authentic Logan Paulsen Jersey , but we still got stuff to do,” manager Dave Martinez said.

Marlins: Prado was activated from the disabled list after missing 37 games with a left hamstring strain. … Miami recalled RHP Ben Meyer from Triple-A New Orleans, placed RHP Tayron Guerrero (left lumbar strain) on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to Wednesday and designated OF JB Shuck for assignment. … SS JT Riddle (hip) was scratched from the lineup. … RHP Sandy Alcantara (right axillary infection) is expected to be re-evaluated and begin a throwing progression Monday. … OF Lewis Brinson (right hip) will be re-evaluated Monday.

Nationals: Martinez said the team is optimistic RHP Stephen Strasburg (shoulder inflammation) will be ready to return right after the All-Star break. … 1B Ryan Zimmerman (right oblique strain) will start running the bases Friday or Saturday and could begin a rehabilitation assignment as early as Sunday. … Washington recalled RHP Jefry Rodriguez from Triple-A Syracuse and placed RHP Erick Fedde on the 10-day disabled list. Fedde, who is 1-3 with a 5.79 ERA, left his start Wednesday in the second inning with right shoulder inflammation.

Five Nationals who walked eventually scored. Another Washington runner scored after reaching base on a forceout of a player who walked.

”We walked eight guys,” Miami manager Don Mattingly said. ”You can’t walk eight guys with that club over there. We let them back in the game.”

Marlins: RHP Dan Straily (3-4, 4.70 ERA) has held NL East batters to a .202 average in five starts this season, though none of those outings have come against Washington.

Nationals: LHP Gio Gonzalez (6-5, 3.77) is winless in his last six starts, but is 10-3 with a 1.85 ERA lifetime against Miami.

CHICAGO — The Cincinnati Reds have given the Chicago Cubs fits all season. But just when Reds appeared on the verge of winning their sixth straight game against the reigning National League Central champions Authentic Carlton Davis Jersey , the Cubs turned to a familiar ally.

The comeback.

The Cubs twice rallied from five runs down on Saturday to pull out an 8-7 victory. They will head into Sunday’s matinee at Wrigley Field with a chance to capture the series. Having staff ace Jon Lester on the mound certainly won’t hurt.

Lester will take his 11-2 record and 2.25 ERA into the start a day after the Cubs produced four eighth-inning runs for their dramatic win.The Cubs’ last eight wins all have come after they fell behind early.

“I love the fight,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters after the team’s 50th win of the season. “Both sides wanted to win (and) we got it in the end.

“We’ve been in this situation all week.”

Added Cubs second baseman Javier Baez, who homered in the seventh inning before the Cubs mounted their latest comeback: “We never quit.”

The rally stunned the Reds, who appeared in line for their sixth win in their last seven games and their 15th in the past 19. Instead, Lester will take the mound in search of his eighth straight victory.

Lester was named NL Pitcher of the Month in June and is tied for the league lead in victories. Lester, who has won seven straight starts dating to May 23 Authentic Alex Cappa Jersey , will look to keep rolling against the Reds, against whom he is 6-1 in 14 starts.

In Lester’s last start — an 11-10 victory over the Minnesota Twins — he added an extra bonus — a solo home run. But Lester, who has struggled traditionally from the plate, won’t get too wrapped up in the excitement.

“If I get hits, I get hits,” Lester told reporters after his last outing on July 1. “The home run is awesome Authentic Jordan Whitehead Jersey , it’s cool, especially at home. But at the end of the day, I know I’m a pitcher and I’m not a hitter.”

The Cubs, who are playing without third baseman Kris Bryant — whom Maddon said will begin a minor league assignment soon — may be without right fielder Jason Heyward. He left Saturday’s loss in the third inning after fouling a ball off his groin.

The Reds enter Sunday’s series finale looking for their sixth straight series. But after Cincinnati touched up Cubs starter Tyler Chatwood for seven runs only to see Jared Hughes surrender a three-run lead, the Reds will attempt to regain their winning ways after Saturday’s shocker.

Cincinnati’s bullpen had, until Saturday Authentic Rashaan Evans Jersey , been able to protect late leads, which made Saturday’s loss so unfathomable. It marked only the third time this season the Reds lost after leading heading into the eighth inning.

“We’ve come back on a few clubs like that,” Reds interim manager Jim Riggleman told reporters, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. “Today, (the Cubs) did it to us.”

Luis Castillo (5-8, 5.53) will start Sunday for the Reds and will attempt to bounce back from a disappointing June. He finished the month 1-3 and allowed at least three earned runs in each of his five outings. Castillo is 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA in three career starts against the Cubs.

The Indians have activated starting first baseman Yonder Alonso from the family medical emergency list.

Alonso returned Monday after missing a weekend series against Minnesota. Alonso is batting .248 with 11 homers and 37 RBIs in 65 games for Cleveland Authentic Harold Landry Jersey , which signed him as a free agent in December.

To make room for Alonso, the team optioned outfielder Greg Allen to Triple-A Columbus.

The Indians also signed reliever Marc Rzepczynski to a minor league contract and assigned him to the Clippers. The left-hander previously pitched for the Indians from 2013-15, appearing in 145 games. He pitched in a career-high 73 games for Cleveland in 2014.

He pitched last season with Seattle and two months in 2018 with the Mariners before being designated for assignment on June 1. He has appeared in 501 career major league games.

Also, outfielder Melky Cabrera cleared waivers and elected free agency. The team designated him for assignment last week.

TORONTO — The Detroit Tigers will be trying to avoid making more history Sunday afternoon when they face the Toronto Blue Jays on Canada Day at the Rogers Centre.

After Blue Jays first baseman Justin Smoak smacked a 1-0 fastball from Joe Jimenez for his second career walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth inning on Saturday Authentic Dante Pettis Jersey , the Tigers have lost 11 games in a row.

The last time the Tigers put together a losing streak like that was 2003. On Sunday, in the third contest of the four-game series, the Tigers will be trying to avoid dipping deeper into their history by losing 12 in a row for the first time since 1996.

The Tigers will start right-hander Jordan Zimmermann (2-0, 4.35 ERA) against Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ (10-3, 3.62).

Saturday looked promising for the Tigers when they took a 3-0 lead in the third inning, but the Blue Jays came back to tie in the fifth.

Both Toronto wins in the series have been by one run.

“Honestly, nobody wants to play extra innings,” Smoak said. “To be able to do it in the ninth and get it over with is always a good feeling.”

The Tigers would beg to differ. They would have been happy to try their luck in extra innings if that’s what it takes to end their funk.

“We’re all trying hard,” Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said. “Everybody’s trying. We tried all kinds of things today to try to make this happen. And we were in the game again and ultimately we lose the ballgame.”

The Blue Jays have dominated the Tigers at the Rogers Centre in recent years, winning 12 of their past 14 meetings.

There could be times when it seems as if the Tigers might be trying a little too hard to make things happen and then paying for it. First baseman John Hicks, who hit his seventh home run of the season in the second inning Saturday, was not so sure that is the case.

“I don’t think guys are trying to do anything more than we’ve been trying to do all year,” he said. “We’re in a losing streak Authentic Vita Vea Jersey , but we’re going out every day playing the same way we’ve been playing all year. But when you are losing, things get magnified.”

Losing a close game or a lopsided one does not matter, Hicks said, adding “A loss is a loss.

“They all stink, every loss is frustrating. It just happens to be in a losing streak, so it happens to magnify things more. We’ve had opportunities to win pretty much every ballgame we’ve lost.”

The task Sunday falls to Zimmermann, who will make his 10th start of the season.

Despite pitching five scoreless innings Monday against the Oakland Athletics, Zimmermann did not factor in the decision, He allowed four hits and three walks and struck out three.

In three career starts against the Blue Jays, Zimmermann is 1-1 with a 3.93 ERA. This will be his first start against Toronto since June 8, 2016, when he took the loss, giving up seven runs and eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. He will be making his first career start at the Rogers Centre.

Happ has not lost since May 10. In his eight starts since Authentic Ronald Jones II Jersey , he is 6-0 with a 2.60 ERA. One of the no-decisions came June 2 in Detroit when he allowed four runs and had eight strikeouts against the Tigers in five innings.

In nine career games (eight starts) against the Tigers, he is 3-1 with a 4.10 ERA.

The Blue Jays lead the season series between the teams 3-2. Two games are left.

Both teams had injuries to relief pitchers Saturday. The Blue Jays put Ryan Tepera on the 10-day disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow and recalled Jake Petricka from Triple-A Buffalo.

Tigers reliever Alex Wilson left the game — and was replaced by Jimenez — in the eighth inning with a strained left calf. He is listed as day to day.

The only thing that would have made Brandon Crawford feel better about his game-ending homer was if it had come early enough to reward Madison Bumgarner with a win.

Crawford homered with one out in the bottom of the ninth after Bumgarner threw seven scoreless innings, giving the San Francisco Giants their fourth straight victory, 1-0 over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night.

”It would have been nice to get him a win,” Crawford said. ”He pitched well enough that he should have gotten one. … He looked like vintage Bum out there. He had everything working. His slider has been a lot sharper his last couple of outings, his curveball is looking a lot better and he’s locating stuff.”

Colorado starter Kyle Freeland matched Bumgarner with seven spotless innings of his own, setting the stage for Crawford’s dramatic shot.

Left-hander Harrison Musgrave (0-3) entered in the ninth to face the left-handed-hitting Crawford. The move backfired when Crawford launched a high drive that cleared the wall in right field for his third career walk-off homer, sending the Rockies to their fourth consecutive loss.

”It just kind of kept to the middle,” Musgrave said. ”Good hitters hit it out of the park and that’s what happened. Just didn’t execute a pitch and you get punished up here for stuff like that.”

Crawford was mobbed by teammates at home plate as the Giants improved to 42-39 at the halfway point of the season. That’s 12 games ahead of their pace from a year ago despite playing the first two months without an injured Bumgarner.

”You always want more,” Bumgarner said. ”But the spot we’re in now is not a bad place to be.”

Reyes Moronta (4-1) got two outs for the win.

Bumgarner retired the first 14 batters he faced before Carlos Gonzalez became the first Colorado hitter to reach, on a broken-bat double that landed just inside the left-field line.

Bumgarner walked the next two batters to load the bases before escaping the jam by striking out Freeland. The 2014 World Series MVP allowed just two hits with eight strikeouts in his second consecutive scoreless start. He pitched eight shutout innings to beat San Diego for his first win of the season last Thursday.

Freeland was just as stingy, permitting only four hits and pitching around a pair of errors by first baseman Ian Desmond. Freeland got Pablo Sandoval to ground out with runners on first and third to end the fourth, and retired Crawford on a popup with runners at the corners to end the sixth.

Freeland has 11 quality starts in 16 appearances this season.

”What a great matchup between two lefties Authentic M.J. Stewart Jersey , one just starting his career and getting his feet on the ground, and Bumgarner, obviously we know what he’s done in his career,” Rockies manager Bud Black said. ”Really proud of Kyle.”

Rockies: RHP Scott Oberg and LHP Mike Dunn were activated from the disabled list. RHPs Jeff Hoffman and Brooks Pounders were optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Giants: RHP Jeff Samardzija (right shoulder) will likely need at least one more rehab start after lasting just four innings for Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday. Samardzija’s outing was cut short because he threw 40 pitches in the first.

Crawford gave the Giants their sixth walk-off homer in a 1-0 win since moving to San Francisco in 1958. The previous one was hit by Steve Decker against Houston in 1991. The others were hit by Bobby Murcer vs. Philadelphia in 1976, Tom Haller in 1967 vs. Pittsburgh, and Willie Mays in 1966 against Houston and 1963 off Warren Spahn in a 16-inning game that Juan Marichal completed against the Milwaukee Braves.

Bumgarner struck out DJ LeMahieu to open the game, giving him 1,500 Ks for his career in 1,534 1/3 innings. He’s the ninth-fastest lefty to reach the mark in the live ball era starting in 1920.

Jon Gray (7-7) looks to beat the Giants for the first time in six career starts in the series finale. Gray is coming off his third career 12-strikeout game, the most in Colorado history. Chris Stratton (8-5) pitches for San Francisco.

Winning is an easy sell.

The Philadelphia Eagles are the first team since the 1990 New York Giants to reach a Super Bowl without a player totaling 1 Jesper Bratt Jersey Kids ,000 scrimmage yards though running backs Jay Ajayi and LeGarrette Blount and wide receivers Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith have done so in the past.

That group plus Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz, wide receiver Nelson Agholor and others have bought into a team-first, unselfish concept. They’re not checking their stats after games. The only number they cared about all season was the win column.

One more against New England in the Super Bowl brings home the team’s first NFL title since 1960.

”I think this group of guys is as good as you could ask to be around,” offensive coordinator Frank Reich said. ”Really, the character and the work ethic, the camaraderie, just the commitment to the process that Coach (Doug Pederson) and our staff is always talking about. There’s a complete buy-in.

”It really helps that we’ve had the success and the execution. It’s always easier to buy in when you’re having the success that we’ve had.”

Blount didn’t even get a carry in a loss at Kansas City in Week 2. Then he ran for a season-high 136 yards two weeks later at the Chargers. It was the only 100-yard rushing performance by Philadelphia this season.

Blount, who led the NFL with 18 rushing touchdowns with New England last year, led the Eagles with 766 yards rushing but his touches decreased after Ajayi was acquired from Miami.

”You can’t be selfish when everybody has one common goal,” Blount said. ”You have to make sacrifices for the betterment of the team. We’ve done that and it’s gotten us this far.”

Ajayi came to Philadelphia with a reputation for selfishness, but it hasn’t been an issue. He kneeled on the turf and sobbed after the Eagles beat Minnesota in the NFC championship game.

”It’s a special feeling to not be done and to still have our goal of winning a Super Bowl right there in front of us,” he said.

Jeffery was the go-to man in Chicago before joining the Eagles. He didn’t have one 100-yard game, but led the team with nine TD catches.

”We’re not looking at numbers Ha Ha Clinton-Dix Jersey , just going out there and playing,” Jeffery said. ”No matter who’s out there having a great game, or whoever the ball’s going to, as long as we’re doing our job and just catching and working and getting those wins, that’s all that matters.”

There were no ”throw me the damn ball” moments in Philadelphia’s locker room.

”I didn’t have to sell it too much,” Pederson said. ”These guys are unselfish players. They are team players. I think any time that you factor in the wins, and they’re contributing to the wins, it sort of minimizes or sort of takes away the (idea) that, `I’ve got to have 1,000 yards; I got to have 10 touchdowns; I’ve got to rush for this many yards and have this many touchdowns.’ I think it minimizes that a little bit, because the team is doing well and the success of the offense.”

AP NFL website: Trevor Williams has been pitching in the majors for less than two full seasons. Still, he’s come to understand the ups and downs that come with the sport.

”Baseball kicks your (behind),” Williams said. ”The highs are so high Kyle Turris Jersey , and the lows are so low. You have to stay even-keeled.”

Williams bounced back from recent struggles by pitching one-hit ball over seven innings and two Pittsburgh Pirates relievers closed out a two-hitter in a 1-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night.

Williams (6-4) struck out seven and walked two for his first victory in a month and after he had allowed a combined 12 runs in six innings in his previous two starts. Jordy Mercer drove in the lone run with a seventh-inning double, and the Pirates won for the fourth time in five games.

The Brewers entered the day leading the NL Central but suffered their third straight loss.

The only hit off Williams was a single by Jonathan Villar with two outs in the fourth. The hit followed a walk to Hernan Perez, and the duo executed a double steal before Erik Kratz struck out to end the inning.

Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle thought fastball command made the difference for Williams.

”Up, down, in, out. It was just an outstanding performance,” Hurdle said.

Williams had gone 0-2 in five starts since beating the Chicago White Sox on May 15.

”He hit his spots,” Milwaukee right fielder Christian Yelich said. ”He was throwing everything for strikes. When a guy is doing that and he’s not really missing over the plate much, it’s a tough night.”

Kyle Crick pitched a perfect eighth inning for Pittsburgh. Yelich singled off closer Felipe Vazquez to open the ninth, ending a string of 13 straight Brewers retired. Vazquez retired the next three hitters for his 14th save in 18 opportunities.

Francisco Cervelli drew a one-out walk in the Pirates’ seventh and advanced to third on Josh Bell’s single. Josh Hader relieved Jhoulys Chacin and struck out Gregory Polanco, but Mercer followed by doubling down the left-field line to score Cervelli.

”The way both guys were pitching, I think everyone started to think that one or maybe two runs and that was going to be the ballgame,” Mercer said.

The run was charged to Chacin (6-2) Authentic Mike McGlinchey Jersey , who had won his previous six decisions and not lost in 13 starts since April 4 against St. Louis. Chacin allowed six hits, struck out two and walked two.

Cervelli had two hits to snap a 0-for-13 skid.

”I feel like I was throwing the ball well,” Chacin said. ”I was making pitches when I had to. In the last inning, I gave up the hit, but I was more frustrated that I walked Cervelli. That was the guy I couldn’t get out.”

As a surprise tribute to Bob Uecker, the Brewers traveling party dressed in loud sportscoats – popularized by the Hall of Fame broadcaster during his frequent guest appearances on The Tonight Show – for the flight from Milwaukee to Pittsburgh on Sunday night.

Manager Craig Counsell said he had hoped to replicate an outfit Uecker once wore that included a turtleneck sweater with a belt and a pair of bellbottom slacks. Alas, Counsell came up empty in his search for such garb.

The Pirates activated right-handed reliever Richard Rodriguez from the 10-day disabled list, recalled infielder/outfielder Jose Osuna from Triple-A Indianapolis and optioned right-handed reliever Dovydas Neverauskas and catcher Jacob Stallings to Indianapolis.

Brewers: 3B Travis Shaw (sore right wrist) was given the night off after being injured Sunday during a swing in a loss to Philadelphia.

Pirates: Rodriguez had been out since June 7 with right shoulder inflammation.

Brewers: RHP Freddy Peralta (1-0, 3.72 ERA) is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs to start Tuesday night. The rookie made two starts with the Brewers earlier this season, including striking out 13 in 5 2/3 innings at Colorado on May 13 in his major league debut, and is 6-1 with a 2.75 ERA in 12 starts with Colorado Springs.

Pirates: RHP Jameson Taillon (4-5, 3.94) is 2-1 with a 2.73 ERA in his last four starts and 1-3 with a 3.47 ERA in seven career starts against Milwaukee.

It has been a tumultuous two years since the Chargers moved north, and, by and large, the move is largely in the rear-view mirror. We are not going to continue to talk about the positives or negatives of the jump from San Diego (that has been done to death, and I’ve surely contributed), but instead focus on the realities of the LA Market.Chris Franco ImagingLA is not often referred to as a sports town, what with other glitzy and glamorous tentpoles to focus on.That non-designation, however, is a bit disingenuous. After their New York days, the Dodgers have firmly planted themselves in to the day-to-day life and conversation in Southern California. As Brian Wilson, the immortal composer of Beach Boys/Jan and Dean/SMiLE and other famous bands and albums, has cemented in his 2008 semi-autobigraphical album http://www.sandiegochargersteamonline.com/desmond-king-jersey , That Lucky Old Sun:If the Beach Boys are talking about you, you’re as timeless as beach days, sun, cars, and fun, fun, fun.The Dodgers have their season. If they are having a good year, there’s a bit of NFL overlap, but there’s generally room for both in a sports bar.The LA Market, however, isn’t so easily compartmentalized. All the while, however, LA seems to be even more in tune with professional basketball than baseball. While the Lakers have long been a draw in the region, they performed a bit of a coup this summer by attracting LeBron James. Did you hear about that? The Chargers won’t only have to worry about the Rams and Dodgers for LA seats and wallets. On the football front www.sandiegochargersteamonline.com , there are now two teams in LA—or are there?USC kickoff is in seven weeks, and their attendance has been consistently better than both the Rams and the Chargers since the moves. That hasn’t been a surprise for either team, and this was always intended to be an uphill battle. What likely HAS been a surprise to the NFL has been the emergence of not one, not two, but THREE startup professional football leagues. The XFL and the AAF will be hitting the scene in the very near future, with the Pacific Pro Football League also joining the fray.LA is a bona fide tack on the map for all three leagues. But those leagues are the future challengers. The Chargers need to worry about the here-and now.The LA Rams have the most flash and sizzle of this latest off-season, second only to the Raiders for off-season headlines. That’s OK.Within the NFL, popularity is granted through success on the field (though the Chargers, if successful in 2018, will prove a very interesting data point to validate or challenge that notion). The Lakers have grabbed all of the headlines of late, and for good reason. They really took a swing and they have the bases loaded. All the potential in the world, however, won’t grant you a home run. They’ll know very soon if this was a boom or a bust.I’m throwing in a baseball metaphor because it’s so completely indicative of the already confusing and crowded Southern California market.Separating themselves from the competition, both in their league and outside of it Los Angeles Chargers T-Shirt , will continue to be the Chargers’ greatest challenge going forward.Alas, this is the only part of the equation that the Chargers have a significant say in.If they want to make an impact, if they want to survive and flourish in LA, they have to win. They have to win.Big free-agent additions only help to set the table (or load the bases, to use the earlier metaphor). The Lakers and the Rams have really set themselves up well for potential success in the very near future. However, until they capitalize on that potential, it’s just fleeting headlines and hubbub.Winning, the great equalizer of fame, is what can make the LA market an equal playing field. To that end, the Chargers actually look like they can make an impact in 2018.They would be wise to make a very powerful impact, because the challenges with upcoming leagues and audience attention will only be more difficult after this season.Jason Michaels-Jason “Utilities are OVER 9,000” Michaels Custom Los Angeles Chargers Jerseys

The Los Angeles Chargers are looking to become one of the best teams in football. With the offense finding a consistent identity and several critical defensive playmakers Womens Darius Philon Jersey , hopes are high for this season to finally be the year where everything clicks and the Bolts hoist their first ever Lombardi trophy. But there are still some concerns for the season and long-term future. With the defense losing several vital playmakers such as linebacker Denzel Perryman, defensive tackle Corey Liuget and cornerback Jason Verrett, a changing of the guard could be in place for the Chargers moving forward. While several key franchise places are intact and should remain at the head of the foreground, other big tame names could be on the move following the 2018 season. The NFL Draft is rapidly approaching and with that, so is the time for Chargers general manager Tom Telesco to begin his scouting process. Multiple players could fit the Charger mold and be the future of the organization.Seven rounds of picks could help mold Los Angeles to win now and for the foreseeable future. With plenty of needs for the Bolts on both sides of the ball, Los Angeles will have a chance to push themselves ahead of the pack with a solid draft class. While this is all speculation, this week’s edition of Blooming Bolts will not feature players the Chargers should look for. Instead, it’ll feature names the team should draft if the season ended today. Yes, there is a quarterback on the list. Round 1: OT West Virginia Yodny CajusteFor those wondering why Alabama’s Jonah Williams isn’t the selection, the Chargers would have to trade a hefty number of picks to move up and select him. Perhaps the top offensive lineman in the draft, Williams is a top-15 lock before even declaring. Joe Barksdale was released from the team following Sunday’s outing against the Steelers, leaving a hole on the right side for the long-term future. Right tackle will become a glaring need to address early on if the team elects to go that pattern. If the Chargers are expecting to have Rivers as their quarterback, they have to protect him the same way the Saints did for Drew Brees. Cajuste’s ceiling might not be as high as several other offensive linemen, but he’s likely the most NFL ready. A clean form pass protector. Cajuste has done a fantastic job protecting Will Grier in the Mountaineers high-tempo offense this season. Solid footwork along with the ability to be a lead blocker downfield, the 6-5, 315-pound tackle can play on either side of the ball and contribute day 1.Perhaps a better option at left tackle, the former Mountaineer could spend time at right tackle and become the long-term option to replace Russel Okung. The Chargers need to build a line for Rivers and whoever replaces him in the future. Cajuste is a plug-and-play starter for the Bolts offense as a rookie. Round 2: Auburn DL Derrick BrownThe defensive line has always been a need for the Bolts this season. With recent news of injuries and life changes, it becomes a pressing one. With Liuget out for the season Authentic Casey Hayward Jersey , the defensive tackle might be released after the season to save the team some cap space. It’s possible, look at what happened to Barksdale. Brandon Mebane is in a contract year while staring down his 34th birthday and recently had a child that could require more attention than his performance on the field. Thankfully for Los Angeles, the defensive line class is pretty packed of quality players. If the Chargers are going to wait to address the defensive line need until day 2, Brown could be the pick that makes the most sense. A bull rusher up the middle, Brown’s size, and speed allows him to overpower single-man blocking sets and stuff running backs behind the line. Good quickness off the snap, the Auburn defender possess great hands and the ability to shuck lineman out of his way to find clean openings towards the ball. The Chargers might not need a starter is Justin Jones can prove his worth and the team elects to keep Liuget one more season. But Liuget will have one more year left on the contract, and any smart general manager knows that battles are won in the trenches. Round 3: Notre Dame LB Te’Von Coney There’s a good, a bad, and an ugly when looking at the Bolts options at linebacker. The good; Jatavis Brown has had success as the MIKE backer since the loss of Denzel Perryman. The bad: Brown is inconsistent as a player and could regress once again if the team elects to move him back to his outside linebacker role. The ugly: the Chargers need to address the linebacker position at some point in the draft for their future if Perryman is no longer an option and Brown isn’t the best choice. Some scouts are higher on Coney than a round-three pick, but his overall skills are very raw. That being said, a round-three selection would be perfect for him and Gus Bradley’s defense. Excellent size and great athletic traits, Coney’s 240-pound frame would allow him to find success as either a MIKE or SAM backer at the next level. A superb tackler who flies to the ball and uses his speed to close outside gaps, Coney is a highly productive tackler that will eliminate the run and produce multiple stops for a defense. Telesco should have his eyes on the young Irish linebacker somewhere on day 2. Coney’s overall skills would mesh well in Gus Bradley’s defense moving forward.Round 4: Ohio State CB Kendall Sheffield With Trevor Williams in a restricted free agent contract this season, a team could sign an offer sheet that the Chargers refuse to pay. Desmond King is looking like a slam dunk pick, but his skills are best suited in the slot against quicker receivers. Casey Hayward is proving to be showing regression in age and could be looking like the best days are behind him. Should the team sign Verrett to a one-year contract, this could give them time to develop a young cornerback for the future. Ohio State over the past few years has been known to bring top-caliber cornerbacks to the professional level. While perhaps not at the same level of Marshon Lattimore or Denzel Ward, Sheffield has the skills to be a quality cornerback in the NFL. Excellent in man coverage Womens Derwin James Jersey , the former Alabama product has strong ball production and limit receptions to any receiver. A reliable tackler, Sheffield isn’t afraid to play the run and could be an excellent gunner on special teams. While the Chargers should look to sign a cornerback in the offseason, adding a young cornerback from a prestigious defensive back university makes sense. Round 5: Notre Dame TE Alize Mack Hunter Henry is one of the up and coming tight ends in the league. He’s coming off a torn ACL however and could need a year of full-time play to gain back that status. Antonio Gates will retire this season, and Virgil Green is no longer a solid secondary option. The Chargers should find a second man just in case Henry’s progression reaches a screeching halt. Notre Dame is known for producing excellent tight end in the NFL and Mack could be the next one. Although relatively new in a starting role, the 6-4, 251-pound tight end could be a solid option in the red zone offense similar to how the Houston Texans use Jordan Thomas. A good blocker in space, Mack can help produce quality rushing yards in the open field. A mismatch against linebackers and slot cornerbacks, his route running will need to improve but should win a majority of battles. A quarterback can never have too many weapons. Mack would be a nice red zone threat. Round 6: Washington State QB Gardner Minshew Let the comments come now. The Chargers are expected to have Rivers still on the roster until the new stadium is built in 2021. That’s all the should expect as of now since the future Hall of Fame gunslinger will be nearing 40 years old and hopefully not on his 10th child. The Chargers need to think about his replacement and drafting a first-round prospect in 2021 isn’t going to save them if they’re still in contention.Maybe not a sexy pick, Minshew has been one of the better quarterbacks in college football this season. The East Carolina transfer has a solid arm, great accuracy and the ability to carry the team down the field while keeping drives alive. Great pocket footwork and the ability to throw under pressure, Minshew has put together a solid season for the Cougars offense with 4,477 passing yards and 36 touchdowns in the PAC 12. While his throws will need some more power underneath them, Minshew could at least be a solid backup at the next level.Round 7: Baylor WR Jalen Hurd With Artavis Scott expected to battle for a role next season and Mike Williams already turning into one of the better receiver prospects from the 2017 NFL Draft, Tyrell Williams could be on the move. With glaring needs at other positions, the Chargers could allow Williams to walk and save themselves some money. If they do, they’ll need to look at another option. Hurd was best known for his time at Tennessee as a running back. Switching positions like switching schools, the 6-4 receiver has made tremendous strides as a route runner for the Bears offense, collecting 64 receptions for 946 yards and four touchdowns. While a work in progress Joe Barksdale Jersey , Hurd offers the ability to mix things up in the Chargers offense and be a potential vertical size threat on the outside. Seventh-round picks sometimes are stars, and Hurd can be just that. With half the season done, who do you hand the offensive player of the year award to right now?Michael Peterson: Melvin Gordon. Has increased his career YPC to 4.0 and has strung together 100-yard games for the first time in his career. On pace for 20 touchdowns and over 1600 yards.Jason Michaels: Philip Rivers can’t double dip. We’re going to give it to Melvin Gordon, who has officially taken off. He was serviceable in most games last year: really good then not. This year he is consistently very, very good.Ruben J. Gonzalez: We’ve have got to go ahead and give Melvin Gordon his props because he is running as free as he’s ever been. He’s not going to juke you in the open field, but his deceiving speed might allow him to scoot on by you. It’s taken him a few years for him (and the coaching staff) to figure it out, but he’s here now and its all for the best.Jake Hefner: Melvin Gordon - His game continues to get better. His versatility in both the run and pass game, gives so much flexibility to the offense. The Chargers are giving every opportunity to Gordon to get into space beat defenders down field. There’s no doubt he has become a game changer for this offense.Mike Murray: Mike Pouncey, his athleticism at the center spot is a huge factor in Melvin Gordon’s success. On many of the big Charger runs you will see Pouncey destroying someone at the second level to break them free.Jamie Hoyle: I think you could make the case here for Philip, Melvin Gordon and Mike Pouncey, but I’m going to go with Gordon. He is the lynchpin of the offense, as everything runs more efficiently when the offense runs through him. He’s been a lot of fun to watch this season.Lou Gorini: The offensive player of the year is every Chargers fan favorite player, Melvin Gordon. Gordon has been the solution to the Chargers red zone woes. He simply has a knack for finding the end zone. He has been a major contributor not only in the rushing game but the passing game as well. The Chargers finally put a competent offensive line in front of Gordon and he goes ahead and awards them with his highest YPC season ever at 5.4. He is the reason why Rivers has had a perfect passer rating on play action passes.Richard Wade: This has to go to Melvin Gordon. He is not just playing way better than he ever has before. He is one of the most productive, most efficient running backs in the entire National Football League. For years now, he has been productive when they threw him the ball. This year, he’s a monster in the passing game. Add to that his work as a runner and Gordon is putting up numbers we have not seen since LaDainian Tomlinson left.Who is your offensive player of the first half of the season? Draft Pick Spotlight: C/G Scott Quessenberry The selection of former-UCLA center Scott Quessenberry Womens Caleb Sturgis Jersey , or “Q-Berry” as I like to call him, was a bit of a head-scratcher as the interior of the offensive line did not seem like the weak link amongst the team’s front five. If you were to ask just about anybody, they would tell you that the right tackle position was the spot needing a bit of reinforcement. However, in the fifth round, Tom Telesco and company pulled the trigger on the hometown kid and brought his childhood dream to life.Quessenberry grew up a die-hard Chargers fan in nearby Carlsbad, California while his family had season tickets every year. To make things even more special, Quessenberry with don the number 61 on his jersey, the former number of the last great Chargers center Nick Hardwick. If the Chargers had not signed Pouncey in free agency Authentic Russell Okung Jersey , I would fully expect Q-Berry to fight for and win the starting job over Pulley. At 6-foot-4 and 310 pounds, Quessenberry is a thick, compact linemen with well-distributed muscle mass throughout his frame. He doesn’t posses eye-popping athleticism at the position but he has a solid, consistent game all the way around.UCLA used Quessenberry in a very similar manner that Whisenhunt uses his linemen in the run game. He likes to take advantage of down blocks and allow his interior guys to pull and look to ear-hole an unsuspecting defensive linemen. He also enjoys pulling his more athletic guys into space in order to get RB Melvin Gordon on the perimeter where he is at his best. The biggest drawback with Q-Berry is that he lacks the pure strength to be a traditional mauler in the run game. He rarely gets adequate vertical movement on down linemen which is probably like why they utilize him on pulls and down blocks. He runs adequate zone tracks and does a great job of scraping his way along the line of scrimmage when on the move, but the ability of being able to line up across from a defender and move him from point A to point B has been lacking far too long in this offensive line.Athletically, Q-Berry was among the top guys at the NFL combine where he ran a 5.09-second forty, cranked out 25 reps on the bench press, jumped 33.5 inches in the vertical and 111 inches in the broad. He really does fit the mold of a Tom Telesco offensive linemen over the past several years.Looking forward to the season Authentic Melvin Ingram Jersey , Q-Berry will likely be in a backup role as the Chargers recently signed Mike Pouncey to be their starting center while Dan Feeney and Forrest Lamp look to secure both guard positions for the forseeable future. If there is an injury to either of these three players, I expect Q-Berry to be the first name called to take their place. This is a great time of year to be thankful for what we have, where we have been, and what the future holds. Although the Chargers have lost their way a bit in recent years, the month of December still holds such incredible promise! This advent calendar is an attempt to hearken back to these days of December joy. Each day will bring a new advent from the Bolts’ history that makes it wonderful to be a Chargers fan.Dec. 06: LaDainian Tomlinson Owns EVERY major franchise career rushing stat... except oneSticking with the Christmas theme, lets take a look at LT’s franchise rushing records, 12 days of Christmas style. On the first day of Christmas my Half Back gave to methe best Running back in team His-tor-yyyy.On the second day of Christmas my Half Back gave to me138 Rushing touchdowns to loveOn the third day of Christmas my Half Back gave to me(Almost) Three thousand runsOn the fourth day of Christmas my Half Back gave to me88.6 yards per gameOn the fifth day of Christmas my Half Back gave to meTWELVE THOU-SAND YARDS!Ok that’s enough of that. But seriously, how spoiled were we to get to witness LT dominate for so long in a Chargers uniform. Shifty http://www.sandiegochargersteamonline.com/trevor-williams-jersey , explosive, strong, precognitive like vision. It’s no wonder that out of the 5 major franchise career rushing records, he owns 4 of them. He accumulated 138 rushing touchdowns while playing for the Chargers. The next closest is Chuck Muncie with 43. He ran the ball 2880 times. 1849 more times than the next closest player, Marion Butts with 1031. He averaged 88.6 yards per game during his career with the Chargers, 21 yards per game more than Ryan Mathews, who was the next closest at 67.7 yards per game. Finally, on those 2880 carries Womens Austin Ekeler Jersey , LT amassed 12,490 yards on the ground which is only 300 yards shy of being as much as Paul Lowe (2nd in team history), Marion Butts (3rd in team history, and Melvin Gordon (6th in team history) COMBINED. Oh and he did it in 77 less games than it took the 3 of them to run that far. The only major franchise career stat that LT doesn’t own is yards per carry. Paul Lowe actually comes in first at 4.9 yards per carry for rushers in team history with a minimum of 500 carries. With the minimum of 500 carries, LT is actually tied for 5th with 4.3 yards per carry. But hey, he only had 199 less carries than the 4 guys ahead of him combined, so I think we can give him a break. In a Super Bowl snoozer featuring a single touchdown by victorious New England and the high-scoring Authentic Ja'Whaun Bentley Jersey , newfangled, all-the-rage Los Angeles Rams managing a measly three points, the MVP trophy went to Patriots receiver Julian Edelman.Where's the love for the defense?Sure, Edelman caught 10 passes for 141 yards, including two grabs on the drive that ended with rookie running back Sony Michel plowing into the end zone with the game's lone touchdown. Yet, if there ever was a case for another defensive MVP like Von Miller in Super Bowl 50, this was it.Of 54 MVPs (Cowboys DT Randy White and DE Harvey Martin shared the honors in 1978), 42 have been offensive players, 11 were defenders and one was a special teamer (Desmond Howard in 1997).There were plenty of worthy candidates from the Patriots defense that hit Goff 16 times, collected four sacks, broke up eight passes and picked off another. Two defenders really stood out:—Jason McCourty raced across the field to break up a would-be touchdown toss to Brandin Cooks, who was wide open — but … had … to … wait … forever … for Jared Goff's rainbow pass that was knocked away just as it arrived.—Stephon Gilmore intercepted Goff's pass in front of his end zone with 4:17 remaining on a pass intended for Cooks to seal the sixth title for Tom Brady, who outplayed Goff, and Bill Belichick, who outsmarted Sean McVay. Calais Campbell , for one, insists Gilmore was the real MVP of SB53 after forcing a fumble Authentic Trey Flowers Jersey , intercepting a pass, breaking up three other throws and collecting five tackles."The offense only scores 13 points and they give MVP to Edelman but the D only gives up 3 points and Gilmore" does all of that, Campbell complained on social media. "Smh no respect for the masterpiece on defense."The Rams may very well represent the future with their 33-year-old coach and 24-year-old quarterback, but the 66-year-old coach and his 41-year-old QB still reign supreme in 2019 — thanks again to a defense that allowed the duo to survive another masterful game plan by Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.Brady's worst Super Bowl — three scores in 11 drives that didn't end in kneel-downs — also was his easiest — a 10-point margin of victory was his highest ever. McVay and Goff both accepted the blame for a miserable showing in which Rams never adjusted to New England's zone defense and aggressive D-line and managed to score just once in a dozen drives, the first eight of which ended in punts. When it was over, the high-flying Rams, who led the NFC in scoring with a 33-point average, had nine punts, an interception, a field goal and a missed field goal to show for all that firepower that had so many NFL teams trying to find the next Sean McVay.After the red-white-and-blue confetti was cleaned up with leaf blowers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor became the third assistant hired off McVay's staff. He was hired as head coach the Cincinnati Bengals. At 35, Taylor becomes the second-youngest head coach in the NFL behind his former boss. The Dolphins hired Brian Flores , the Patriots linebackers coach and de facto defensive play-caller who has cut his teeth in Foxborough since 2004.With those two hires, the coaching carousel has eight new head coaches, six of them with offensive roots, as owners seek the next McVay or Kyle Shanahan to keep up with all this innovative run-pass optioning, jet-sweeping Womens Joe Thuney Jersey , scoreboard-busting offenses. The kind that didn't show up in this Super Bowl.Vic Fangio, who spearheaded Chicago's dominant defense, was the only other defensive assistant hired as a head coach this cycle, replacing Vance Joseph in Denver. The other jobs all went to offensive minds promising innovation in this age of change. The Packers hired Matt LeFleur, who was McVay's offensive coordinator in 2017. The Cardinals dipped into the college ranks to hire Kliff Kingsbury, who tutored MVP Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech. The Cleveland Browns promoted offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens, who worked wonders with Baker Mayfield after his midseason promotion from running backs coach. The Jets hired Adam Gase, Peyton Manning's former OC who wore out his welcome in Miami, and the Buccaneers brought Bruce Arians and his deep offensive roots out of retirement.Miami fans should be ecstatic about the arrival of Flores, 37, after watching him help their AFC East rival win yet another Super Bowl title.Saints fans didn't pay much mind to Super Bowl 53.Thousands of New Orleans football fans partied in the French Quarter while the Rams and Patriots were trudging into the fourth quarter tied at 3.A "Boycott Bowl" festival and a jazz funeral procession putting the football season to rest encapsulated how New Orleans residents felt about the Super Bowl, and even the city's police department got in on the disenchantment.NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports the New Orleans Police Department made a spoof video showing their investigation into the infamous "no-call" in the NFC championship that the Saints lost to the Rams. The newspaper's nearly blank front page also summarized what those in the Big Easy thought of the Patriots' win over the Rams on Sunday: "Super Bowl? What Super Bowl?" Nate Solder knows the Giants haven't played up to expectations this year, and it's on him to be part of the solution. The left tackle signed a four-year, $62 million contract in March with $35 million guaranteed, making him the league's highest-paid offensive lineman. His assignment was to anchor the left side of New York's beleaguered offensive line and protect Eli Manning's blind side. But the line has struggled so far for the Giants (1-5), and the 37-year-old Manning has been criticized for his performance. Solder said the entire offense shares the blame for the quarterback's struggles."I think a lot of that is almost expected," Solder said Saturday of the criticism. "I think we've done some good things and some bad ones. I think the expectations of me were extremely high. But I think the higher expectations work for everyone. I think we still have a chance to do some good things here. It's not my position to say anything about my teammates. I think we all get frustrated. We just have to move on and go forward."Manning has completed 68.7 percent of his throws Womens Malcom Brown Jersey , but the lack of protection has made it difficult for the Giants to push the ball downfield. He's averaging only 7.23 yards per completion, with six touchdown passes and four interceptions.Solder had been listed as questionable for Monday night's game against the Atlanta Falcons (2-4) with a neck injury, but he said he never looks at the injury report and will play."We just have to start stringing a few together," Solder said. "We have to take it one day at a time, one game at a time. I think every game is important, but we know we're in a tough spot. We just have to keep working and keep improving."There could be problems elsewhere on the offensive line. Right guard Patrick Omameh is questionable with a knee injury.Coach Pat Shurmur said if Omameh can't play, he will shift some people around, perhaps moving recent free-agent acquisition Spencer Pulley into the starting lineup at either guard or center and moving center John Greco to guard.Wide receiver Russell Shepard (neck) is also listed as questionable, and with fellow receiver Jawill Davis already ruled out with a concussion, the Giants will have to make a roster move to activate a third receiver. Bennie Fowler, brought in as a free agent last week, has been moved to the 53-man active roster and may see time with both the offense and special teams.Outside linebacker Olivier Vernon, who missed the first four games with a high ankle sprain, believes he's ready for an increased role after he played limited snaps against the Philadelphia Eagles last Thursday."I feel good," Vernon said. "I'm just trying to do what I know I can do. I just have to stay solid. I'm going to try to contain and be disruptive to a very good team. I just have to keep after it. If I can get a few pressures, then everything else will fall into place."Said Shurmur: "I think Olivier played some really good snaps last week and we're ready to build on that."

The New England Patriots did it again. All the haters were pissed at the end of the night Authentic Cordarrelle Patterson Jersey , all the doubters, once again, proven wrong (I’ve never been so happy to be wrong). With everything that was lined up against them, the Patriots once again came away victoriously, and now they’re headed back to the Super Bowl for the third year in a row.Did New England play a perfect game? Not even close, but, in the end, it was enough. The team completely dominated the first half, and was still “only” up 14-0 at the break. That’s because Tom Brady threw a terrible goal line interception. If Reggie Ragland hadn’t picked it off, the guy covering Rob Gronkowski had a shot at it too. Tough to have a play worse than that at the goal line. Then, Julian Edelman http://www.newenglandpatriotsteamonline.com/tom-brady-jersey , on almost back-to-back plays, made two of the worst plays you’ll ever see. The punt was worse because there is no excuse for him being in that position, but the drop that led to the Daniel Sorensen pick was more costly, giving the Chiefs the ball with great field position. Lastly, another drop that was picked, this one intended for Gronk was called back because Dee Ford inexplicably lined up in the neutral zone. I don’t know how it’s possible to line up in the neutral zone with 1:01 left in the game, up four points, but he did. For all the mistakes that were made, the Patriots executed when they needed to.After the interception on the pass to Edelman allowed the Chiefs to take the lead, the Patriots scored touchdowns on each of their final three drives: 10 plays for 75 yards, 6 plays for 65 yards Womens David Andrews Jersey , and 13 plays for 75 yards in overtime. On that final drive, Brady was 4 for 9, with all his completions going for first downs, including three in third-and-long situations. That was a legacy drive for Brady, and boy did he come through. Just another feather in his illustrious cap.But it wasn’t just Brady. Yes, the defense faltered in the second half, but it was them who shut down the Chiefs in the first. The pressure they put on Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes was unrelenting, and, although the Chiefs eventually figured it out (they always did this year), they were able to slow down the best offense in football just enough. The running backs also played great. Sony Michel was outstanding again, and Rex Burkhead was fantastic on the final two drives of the game. Edelman made up for his costly errors by putting forth an amazing effort to help them get back in the game. He takes a ton of punishment over the middle Authentic Lawrence Guy Jersey , and never slows down. Chris Hogan made some great plays, including the sensational third down catch that Kansas City challenged. For a guy that was basically ignored all year, he played well, as did Phillip Dorsett who only had one catch, but it went for a touch, through a defensive pass interference that wasn’t called. And Rob Gronkowski, who people questioned all year, finally showed some of the old Gronk. The offensive line needs its own paragraph, because it was that good. Their individual numbers were insane, including Shaq Mason winning every matchup on passing downs. But it’s what they were able to do as a unit that made them so special. Throw James Develin in with them too, because he deserves the recognition. The first two offensive drives combined took 26 plays Authentic Shaq Mason Jersey , and they took 14 minutes off the clock. That’s the way you beat any team, especially one that is as dominant on offense as the Chiefs are.The biggest show of their dominance is a simple one: they ran 97 plays, and only one of them went for negative yardage. It was Tom Brady’s kneel down at the end of regulation. No sack, no rushing attempts blown up in the backfield, no screen passes snuffed out, just total and complete domination by the guys up front. Now the Patriots head to their NFL-best eleventh Super Bowl. Tom Brady will have played in nine, which is more than any other franchise in NFL history. They’re playing the team this all started with, except they have the same coach and quarterback while the Los Angeles Rams have had four different coaches (six if you count interims), and countless starting quarterbacks since that fateful day 17 years ago. What Brady and Belichick have done is unprecedented. We are witnessing the best ever perform at their highest level. The best part is, they’re not done yet. Pat is the host of The Patriot Nation PodcastInteract with him on Twitter @plane_pats The New England Patriots played a close game against the visiting Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, one decided on the final play. The 43-40 contest was an emotional one throughout and it was only natural to see the Patriots express the same emotion when entering the locker room after the game (via the Patriots’ Twitter):Following the usual amount of handshakes and high-fives Womens Julian Edelman Jersey , Bill Belichick took the floor to congratulate his team to the win. “Congratulations,” the Patriots head coach told his team. “Talk about competing for 60 minutes, that’s what it took. You guys fought your ass off out there. That’s a good football team, give them credit for the way they played – we just played a little bit better. Talk about close games, we had one today.”Belichick went on to tell his team that is needs to “keep it rolling” before ordering it back to work the very next day. Team captain Matthew Slater took the floor after the coach to break down the traditional postgame huddle: “Let’s keep getting better, let’s keep believing, fellas. How do we feel, though, about knocking off the Chiefs?” Awww yeah. The Patriots also released a sights-and-sounds clip from the game on their website, including a conversation between Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady leading up to the game-winning field goal attempt.

Patriots 30-27.Patriots bring in two defenders for free agency workouts On a short week, the New England Patriots’ focus is lying primarily on getting ready for tonight’s opponent, the Indianapolis Colts. However, that does not mean that the team won’t take a look at some free agency to potentially bolster its roster further down the line. According to ESPN Boston’s Mike Reiss, this is exactly what the Patriots recently did by bringing in a pair of defenders:LB Calvin MunsonCalvin Munson originally entered the NFL in 2017 http://www.newenglandpatriotsteamonline.com/phillip-dorsett-jersey , when the New York Giants signed him as an undrafted free agent. The San Diego State product was not only able to make the team’s 53-man roster, he also carved out a role on defense and special teams: Munson appeared in 14 games during his rookie season and served as New York’s number three linebacker and a core special teamer. However, the 23-year old failed to build on his encouraging first year in the league and after a stint on the Giants’ practice squad to open the 2018 season was released.DT David ParryDavid Parry appeared in 35 games over the course of his three-year career. The former fifth-round draft pick was a two-year starter for the Colts but waived during 2017’s final roster cuts. The New Orleans Saints picked him up but shortly afterwards placed the 6’2, 320 lbs defensive tackle on injured reserve due to an ankle injury. During his stint on IR, Parry served a four-game suspension stemming from a guilty plea for disorderly conduct and attempted unlawful means of transportation. The Saints did not re-sign him and Parry joined the Minnesota Vikings for whom he appeared in two games this season as a rotational defensive tackle. He registered two tackles and a sack but was let go two weeks ago.
